MONSTRA returned yesterday to Cinema São Jorge for the preview of the Portuguese version of “Bigfoot Family”, on the first day of the Festival. Jérémie Degruson, who co-directed this feature with Ben Stassen, came all  the way from Belgium and nWave studio (also honored in this edition) to introduce his film and watch it for the first time on the big screen, as the pandemic prevented it from being viewed in the theaters upon its premiere in 2020.

Today, July 22th, the Official Opening Ceremony of MONSTRA will take place with the screening of 5 world premieres all of which Portuguese productions or co-productions.  In the event Music will also play a central role, alongside a showcase of animation short films by MONSTRA 2021’s Guest Country, Belgium.

This evening in Lisbon, the magnificent Manoel de Oliveira theatre room at Cinema São Jorge will be welcoming – at 20:30 – this one-of-a-kind event in Animation, full of national and international guests, music and many other arts, together with unrelased and well-known films.

It is enough to say that returning to Cinema São Jorge is an animation!

Also today, at Cinema City Alvalade, MONSTRA opens its TerrorAnim section, dedicated audiences who are not afraid of some chills and thrills and are looking for more “alternative” animation films.

“George the Hedgehog” (2011), by Polish directors Wojtek Wawszczyk, Jakub Tarkowski, and Tomasz Lesniak, is here to show us that hedgehogs are no longer as cute as they used to be, and have very complicated lives in big cities.

We hope to see you there, for tons of great animation!
