SOCIEDADE NACIONAL DE BELAS-ARTES | 22 to 30 MARCH 2019
MONSTRA – Lisbon Animation Festival and the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes pair up to bring you this four-part exhibition:
MONSTRA’s exhibitions are an important part of the festival’s program because MONSTRA thinks of Animation cinema as an art form that transcends cinema itself. The four parts that make up the exhibit reflect exactly that but also how animation can communicate with every other art form, and how they transform into something more expressive by the imprint every author leaves on his work. That’s how these exhibitions allow us to look beyond the screen.
Besides the ‘The Magic of Aardman Studios’ exhibition at the Museu da Marioneta, MONSTRA presents three different exhibitions that honour this year’s guest country and some famous portuguese authors, in some other locations.
Highlighted here the exhibition at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes (SNBA), with four different independent exhibits that show different perspectives on the art of Animation, through the works of Regina Pessoa and Abi Feijó, Pierre Hérbert, Miguel Pires de Matos and a tribute to the great Norman McLaren, by the NFB.
At the Cinema São Jorge, we honour the 30 year anniversary of the Film Bilder Studio; we have a space dedicated to portuguese films in competition; and in the main show windows, we display some drawings of original films produced by the NFB, a great Canadian indie film production company that marks its 80th anniversary this year.
