The 16th edition of MONSTRA | Lisbon Animated Film Festival will be held between March 16 and 26, 2017. Our program was announced today at the Italian Institute of Culture and can be accessed through our website.

This year, we will have Italy as our guest country, as a tribute to the great masters of Italian animation, such as Bruno Bozzetto (“Allegro non Troppo”) or Enzo D’Aló (“Pinocchio”), Julia Gromskaya and Simone Massi, as well as Giannalberto Bendazzi and Luca Raffaeli, who will be the curators of some of our programs.

In our Feature Film Competition you will be able to watch “My Life as a Zucchini” by Claude Barras, director who will be with us at MONSTRA. The film is nominated for the Academy Award. Also nominated for the most coveted award in the world of cinema is the film “The Red Turtle” by Michael Dudok De Wit, a film co-produced by Studio Ghibli, which will be screened at the Festival in our Special Session.

This year, for the first time, MONSTRA will hold at Cinema Ideal a session dedicated to adult animation, Triple X, with a selection of films for those over 18.

From Japan, we will have “Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie” by Kazuchika Kise, which marks the anticipated return of a long-standing saga, as well as “The Anthem of the Heart” by Tatsuyuki Nagai, which will be in competition in the Feature Film section.

From March 16 to March 26, MONSTRA will be on the loose in Lisbon!
