One of the highlights of this MONSTRA’s program this year is the LAIKA: FRAME x FRAME exhibition — an immersive journey into the stop-motion cinematography of LAIKA Studios, where art and science intersect to push the boundaries of animated filmmaking.

This exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at LAIKA’s five acclaimed films — ‘Coraline’, ‘ParaNorman’, ‘The Boxtrolls’, ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’, and ‘Missing Link’ — showcasing never-before-seen artifacts from their creative processes. Each film is honored with a key frame that serves as an entry point into the stop-motion universe, featuring a wide range of materials, from concept art, character design, and storyboards to puppets, sets, and props — each piece reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship and boundless creativity involved in every frame.

Visitors will experience an interactive and immersive exhibition, exploring life-sized sets and engaging with the creative process behind these iconic productions. The exhibition also offers an exclusive sneak peek at ‘Wildwood’, LAIKA’s upcoming feature film. LAIKA: FRAME x FRAME will be on display at the Museu da Marioneta from March 14 to May 11. Tickets are now available here.
