This film is an experimental examination of the process of translating our sensory impressions and the interconnectedness of the senses.

Little Rain Worms

The final season (40 - 52) of a popular Play Doh stop motion animation cartoon series for the youngest viewers of the Czech Television Kids Channel CT :D. With its total number of 52 episodes, it is the longest-running original animated project of Večerníček (TV bedtime stories) since 1989. The new episodes were once again the teamwork of screenwriter, animator and director Jaromír Gál and dramaturg Miloš Zvěřina. This time, in thirteen brand new stories, the two Little Rain Worms and their inseparable friend Blackbird experience adventure, suspense, but also inherent fun while saving the animals who live with them in the garden all year round. Through their bravery and hilarious transformations of their bodies, the Little Rain Worms rescue a squirrel from a burning tree and build her a new home. They will play pranks and frolic with a dragonfly, but at the right moment, save a grasshopper from a carnivorous plant. Dangerous situations and various pitfalls are solved by the Little Rain Worms and Blackbird with their characteristic wit, creativity, cleverness, and humor.

The Catholic clergyman Alois Musil was one of the most important discoverers of archaeological treasures of the Muslim world. The printed pages of Musil's travelogues inspired the director and artist Jan Cechl to create traditional, semi-plastic puppets that embark on dangerous adventures in the fairy-tale Orient, full of fiery genies and Bedouin wisdom. As Sheikh Músa ar Ruelli, the Moravian priest becomes a wild nomad of the desert, and during a risky expedition, he discovers the lost Amra Castle, which earns him worldwide fame. At the same time, Jan Cechl's film it's also a playful homage to one of the most valuable jewels of world cinema - David Lean's film, Lawrence of Arabia.

The narrative draws inspiration from personal experiences and academic life in Melbourne. Many peers and professionals have encountered the negative effects of overwork. Thus, this video aims to convey to people, and also remind myself, about the importance of work-life balance. Taking time to relax or go on a short vacation can lead to recharging and gaining unexpected experiences, which can be more beneficial than solely focusing on work. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about overworking and encourage better eye care through this 3-minute short animation. The intent is for individuals to recognize that excessive work is unsustainable and can lead to health problems. Ideally, the project could bring some encouragement and motivation to those who face job-related burnout and aspire to make positive changes in their lives.

The film interprets the theme of the loss of personality, the so-called "depersonalization" - a state in which the individual loses the ability to feel the image of himself, his emotions, even his body. The world of the film is created through the movement of pigment, paint, fluid by the use of "painting under the camera" technique. The events flow into each other, degenerate in the logic of some irreversible and unnatural randomness. Their metamorphosis collides the evolutionary course with its opposite - the tree grows and buries his crown back into the earth, the world returns to primal matter, the consumer is consumed.

Where I live

In Where I Live, Susi Jirkuff traces a person’s sudden descent, not only narratively, but also visually, image by image. Right at the start, the protagonist says, “I’ve been living one floor below since yesterday.” But no one around her reacts to this extraordinary situation. In Jirkuff’s animation, based on a story by Ilse Aichinger (1921–2016), the parts of the house develop a life of their own. Along with the handrail and the wallpaper, even the white drawing surfaces are affected: Jirkuff’s charcoal strokes and the coal dust from Aichinger’s text, color them gray (after all, coal is stored in the cellar where the narrating voice ultimately ends up).

“Fiore mio” is a visual suggestion, a succession of images meant to tell the story of absence and presence, what remains or what is lost, between two people when their paths part. The music video is a mix of traditional animation and footage, made by printing all frames by hand through the cyanotype technique. A story about a pilot, a captain, a machinist, a driver, a mailman, a girl... and a giant box. What's in the box, the giant box that the pilot brought with him from a country, far, far away? Probably an elephant, the captain thinks, and very carefully he loads the box onto his ship. The ship hobbles and wobbles on the high seas. A strong gust breaks open the walls of the box creakingly. And what’s in the box? Another box!
